Ref. 557/1919.

With reference to your letter of the 11th instant re

my application for permission to have a small experimental Wire- -less station, may I suggest that the following be brought to the attention of the Secretary of State for the Colonies:-

During the late war, I held a commission as Captain in the Royal Engineers and after I was invalidad from France I was attached to the Inspection Division at the Royal Dockyari at Woolwich as Assistant Inspector of Wireless Apparatus. I was "mentioned in despatches" for my work at Woolwich and, subjant to your approval, I am a suitable person to whom such permission my be grated.

It is conceivable that circumstances might arise when it would be an advantage to have someone in Hongkong who is

familiar with modern Service Wireleg apparatus.

I am etc.,

(84.) R. Melville Smith.
